LIndsay's Hairy Situation over Fur Coat

Have Lindsay Lohan's supposedly dwindling coffers forced
her to resort to borrowing second-hand outerwear? In yet another example of why
the id-propelled starlet should learn the joys of being a bookish homebody,
she may have walked off with a fur coat belonging to a college student.
Columbia co-ed Masha Markova, 22, tells the New York Post she feared she had
lost her beloved $12,000 blond mink jacket, given to her by her grandmother,
after whooping it up during a private bash at New York hot spot 1Oak in
January.
Seems she placed the swanky, PETA-unfriendly pelt in a bin with the rest of
the revelers' coats -- yeah, probably not the best place for it -- only to
discover it missing when she made her exit an hour later.

Lindsay sports the allegedly purloined pelt
as she exits a restaurant on Jan. 26.

But during a fateful browse through OK! magazine a couple weeks later, she
saw her light brown fur swaddling a leggings-clad Lohan in a photo reportedly
taken hours after the shindig.
"I was actually talking on the phone to my grandmother about something else,
and then I flipped through the magazine, saw the picture said, 'I need to call
you back,'" recalls the miffed Markova. "It was my coat. It was no doubt!"
Calls to the club and then eventually to Lohan's lawyer led to the return of
the hirsute covering, which the student claims came back smelling of cigarettes
and booze and with a small tear in the lining, problems solved after a trip to
the dry cleaner and some needle and thread.
Still, Markova apparently wants the actress to pony up for the shaggy rental,
with her lawyer telling ABCNews.com she's looking for a figure in "the
six-figure range."
"I don't know what her motivation was. Maybe it was rare to find a blond mink
that matched her hair," Markova's lawyer snipes to ABCNews.com. "If my client
had gotten an apology [and the coat] a day later, she would have rolled her eyes
and said, 'Party girl.' But it wasn't that way."
Lohan's apparent explanation for the fur kerfuffle: Sources tell TMZ she owns
a "number of similar coats" and once she was informed the mink wasn't hers she
"immediately" arranged to give it back. (This isn't the first time she's had
trouble with objects belonging to other people. You'll recall she also claimed
the cocaine police allegedly found in her pants last year wasn't hers.)
As for the coat smelling of alcohol and smoke, an insider says that's
"absurd."
And for good measure, Lohan's rep tells ABCNews.com, "Lindsay did not steal a
coat."
Markova, however, has her doubts that the pelt pinching was an honest
mistake, telling the Post, "I don't see how it could have been an accident."
Not surprisingly, Lindsay's mother-manager Dina, who was just inexplicably honored as a "Long Island Top Mom," tells Newsday
it's all a bunch of hooey and she and her daughter were "laughing hysterically"
about the accusation.

Lindsay gets to experience high school on the
set of "Ugly Betty."

Also hysterical is her seemingly day-late, dollar-short advice for her
daughter: "Just to be honest and to stay morally correct."
At least LiLo is earning some good reviews for her guest-starring stint on
"Ugly Betty," in which she'll play an old
high school nemesis of the plucky titular heroine.
"She was terrific -- a pleasure," the show's creator, Silvio Horta, proclaims
to Us. "She came in early and was very pleasant."
Lohan's first appearance will be on the May 22 finale, and she'll return for
five more episodes next season.
